Malaysia SIRIM certification
The management Department of Standards Malaysia (DSM) is mainly responsible for the Ministry of Science, Technology And Innovation. The only standard-setting body designated by the Standards And Industrial Research Institute Of Malaysia Behad (SIRIM Bhd) is a government-owned non-profit.
SIRIM Berhad was formerly known as SIRIM.SIRIM was formed in 1975 by the merger of the SIRIM institute of standards Malaysia (SIM) and the national institute of science and industry (NISIR) in accordance with the enactment of the SIRIM establishment act by the parliament. SIRIM was the national standards body and government spokesperson at that time.On 1 September 1996, the Malaysian institute of standards and industrial research (SIRIM) became a corporate body, now known as SIRIM Berhad, which withdrew from its role as the national standards body but remained the only standard-setting body designated by the Malaysian department of standards (DSM).
SIRIM has established The Industry Standards Committees (ISC) to develop Standards, and currently has more than 100 Standards Committees and 1,500 Standards working groups under The ISC."The standards adopted by Malaysia mainly fall into two categories: local national standards and national equivalent international standards. The former adopts "MS" as the characteristic code, while the latter adopts "MS+ international standard characteristic code" as the standard characteristic code. The serial number is completely consistent with the international standard number. The Malaysian standard is voluntary, but the standard cited by the regulations requires mandatory implementation, and the whole standard system is basically in line with the international standard.
From 2010 electrical products must be guaranteed to meet the requirements of the standards (compulsory certification), have a recognized certificate (COA), and be affixed with SIRIM label/logo, otherwise they cannot be sold in the Malaysian market. The product certification label/logo must be purchased from SIRIM QAS and a certification certificate must be provided at the time of purchase to record the use of the label. The main certification mode is: test the product to determine whether it meets the standard requirements + factory inspection and market supervision to determine whether the product quality continues to meet the requirements.
